Press release:
The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir is pleased to announce the appointment of Hannes de Vries as its new Managing Director, effective 1 May 2026. Founded by Ton Koopman in 1979, with the choir added in 1992, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir is internationally recognised as one of the leading ensembles in the field of historically informed performance.
His appointment also marks a return to the ensemble he has known for many years. For more than 25 years, De Vries has worked with Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir and through his involvement with the ensemble, with its founder and conductor Ton Koopman.
Hannes de Vries brings broad experience in artist management, touring, and classical music promotion to the role. Since 2019, he is leading his own boutique agency, De Vries Artists, representing conductors and musicians and working closely with halls, orchestras and artists across the national and international music field. His background also includes more than 10 years of board membership of International Artist Managers' Association (IAMA).
“I am very happy and proud to be part again of this great orchestra,” said Hannes de Vries. “I am delighted to start working with and for Ton Koopman and his orchestra in the coming years. It is a great pleasure to return, and I hope that together we can make a real difference in the future planning and sustainability of this remarkable ensemble.”
Under Ton Koopman’s leadership, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir has earned an international reputation for stylistically informed and expressive performances, appearing in major venues and festivals around the world. With the appointment of Hannes de Vries as Managing Director, the ensemble underlines its commitment to combining artistic excellence with strong organisational leadership, continuity and long-term sustainability.
Ton Koopman says: “I am very glad to welcome Hannes de Vries as the new Managing Director of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir. It is an important role for the future of the ensemble, and I look forward to a wonderful collaboration with him.
With several major tours ahead of us — in the Netherlands, across Europe, and in China and Japan — Hannes will join forces with our tour manager Mischa Schouw and our librarian Eline Holl, forming an outstanding team.
Welcome, Hannes.”
